Overview

The Clinic Float performs various procedures associated with routine patient encounters, maintains positive relationships with patients, family members, visitors and fellow employees. Receptionist makes appointments for patients and maintains accurate and orderly schedules for physicians. The Clinic Float also draws blood and obtains various specimens from patients with minimum discomfort and pain for the performance of clinical laboratory analyses. The Clinic Float also takes vital signs, direct patients to proper exam/treatment room, and ensure all medications are up-to date. Prepare patients for examinations and other procedures. Assist physician with procedures as directed.

 

Responsibilities:

1. Take vital signs and ensure all medications are up-to-date. Prepare patients for examinations and other procedures. Assist physician with procedures as directed. Make sure Meaningful Use
requirements are addressed and met as appropriately delegated to the check in process.
2. Review daily schedules to ensure productive clinic flow; monitor charge tickets to reflect updates in insurance, patient demographics, etc. Clean exam rooms between patients. Thoroughly clean exam rooms weekly.
3. Be proficient in LIS functions and follow policies; creating orders, checking in patients including entering your name under the phlebotomist of each order and producing barcodes and forms
asneeded. Be proficient in working with appropriate computer applications.
4. Verify the identity of every patient before collecting any samples. Ensure proper patient
identification and sample collection using paper orders in the event of an interruption in computer service.
5. Be aware of Medicare guidelines, send-out test requirements, and special tests. Explain Medicare ABNs to patients clearly and accurately.

6. Perform venipuncture and finger/heelstick procedures with a high degree of professionalism
andconcern for the patient, including a minimum of 2 sticks per encounter. Collect nasal and throat swabsand blood cultures when needed. Perform timed tests accurately. Glucose tolerance and H Pylori breath tests. Comply with all safety policies and OSHA regulations. Instruct patients regarding proper test preparation and specimen collection of urine, stool, and sputum samples in a clear and accurate manner.
7. Perform capillary blood glucose and capillary protimes after proper training and check-off by.

8. Communicate with other departments to solve problems concerning test orders and patient
preparation.
9. Properly operate and maintain phlebotomy equipment, including vacutainers, syringes, pediatric collection devices, butterfly apparatus, and safety devices.
10. Maintain cleanliness and disinfection of patient drawing areas.
11. Report all accidents involving patients, employees, or visitors to the supervisor or Administration immediately.
12. Be meticulous concerning personal hygiene, especially hands, nails, teeth, and breath; keep hair clean and restrained.
13. Manage all phases of the patient encounter; verify or update patients name, address, phone number and health coverage; direct patients to appropriate clinic locations as indicated by the schedule. Keep waiting room area clean and organized.
14. Operate personal computer to generate patient fee tickets and attach tickets to patients chart and deliver charts to designated location prior to patients visit.
15. Answer incoming telephone calls. Receive, record, and relay incoming msgs to appropriate personnel.
16. Schedule follow up appointments. Follow up with no-show appointments as needed. Rescheduling patients when needed

17. Collect copays and balances, maintain log sheets and balance at end of day. Research accounts as needed and communicate the information with the patients.
18. Assure PHI information is current and accurate. Stay updated on new insurance cards and requirements.
19. Update patient demographics.Scan documents in appropriate categories in EMR/Groupcast. Handling medical records releases as needed.
20. Register patients for patient portal and assist with problems they may encounter.
21. Open or close front office according to assigned schedule.
22. Keep account in groupcast current (removing sticky notes, changing billing name at 18, etc.).

23. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

 

Qualifcations:

Equivalent to four years high school or GED, with particular emphasis during high school in office skills, shop skills, or others, plus 12 to 18 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and
experience.
