Overview

The MRI/ABUS coordinator performs various routine and complex clerical tasks and interacts with
patients, clinic personnel in other departments to ensure good internal and public relations. Tasks
include determining patient out-of-pocket cost; obtaining pre-authorizations, screening and scheduling
patients appropriately; educating the patient as appropriate; obtaining, scanning and loading orders,
records and images from outside sources; perform other tasks as assigned.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Demonstrate a thorough knowlege of CPT and ICD10 cods as well as insurance contractual
    language
  • Ensure patient accounts and insurance information are set up correctly
  • Respond to insurance companies request for information in a timely manner
  • Recognize potential credit problems and refer to appropriate personnel for follow up. Assist in
    locating payor services for patients that qualify
  • Keep up to date on new insurance regulations and guidelines
  • Demonstrate moderate knowledge of medical terminology
  • Contact ordering physicians to request orders for recommended procedures. Must be able to
    communicate medical necessity for requested test
  • Schedule MRI appointments as ordered
  • Identify patients who have had ABUS recommended by radiologists. Discuss with patients the
    reason for exam, benefits, patient costs. Schedule ABUS exams.
  • Work with TBC schedule, technologists and outside physicians.facilities in coordinating multiple
    same day appointments.
  • Obtain prior authorization for services as well as verify validity of authorizations obtained from outside physicians
  • Verify patient eligibility and benefits for recommended services. Communicate with patient
    responsibility for services and arrange payment
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill
    area; e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc.
  • 12-18 months related experience and/or education
